Focusing on the idea of the spiel as the main interface between restaurant workers and guests, I have written a short script that satirizes cultural expectations of the worker’s behavior. Restaurant workers are often asked to give so much of themselves to both their place of employment, as well as to the guests that they serve, with little reciprocation. The Film (although still a work in progress) uses a dark, comedic lens to show that how no matter how hard a server might try, the industry always swallows up more and more of them – in this case more of their physical body. This film follows a previous animated short titled "Spiel," which utilizes a live recording of a restaurant worker interacting with two guests. Both films include the use of thermal receipt paper as background textures and transitional components, along with a combination of frame-by-frame and keyframe animation techniques.
