Nv shu, also known as the Women’s script, is a kind of lettering system derived from Chinese characters that was used exclusively among women during Ming and Qing dynasty in Jiangyong County, Hunan Province, in southern China. The unique shape and pronunciation of the Women’s script made me curious to learn about its background and find out how this script was developed. If we want to preserve this script and make it more widely known, the intervention of scholars and experts is essential and indispensable. It is also necessary to use the power of society to promote it. Although Nv shu is now brought into the society and more people are beginning to learn it, I still feel sorrow for the women who were left in the past. So I intend to write and illustrate a metaphorical story to tell how this script was developed and then how it was interfered with by the official culture, and to remember those women who were left in the “women society”.
