These 3 projects all take you on a journey that explores marriage: a legally or formally recognized union of two people as partners, for life. Throughout history, evolution has more so proved that we are not supposed to be monogamous, and yet, throughout our whole lives, we long to find the “other half of us” that will make us whole. I wanted to investigate what marriage is really about and if/why/how the media romanticized the idea of marriage and the expectations of what an ideal partner is. What is the value of being married, and what does it take to have a successful one?

At the beginning of this project, I started out being skeptical of this whole concept and wanted to research whether or not my skepticism was valid. Slowly, throughout investigating, my perspective shifted. This thesis challenges the notion of what we’re told a marriage should be. Finding a partner is likely to be one of the central goals in our lives and these projects explore the shifting future of what a marriage can look like, the ways love can be celebrated and what a successful marriage truly means.
