Watching your loved one go through something like cancer is terrifying. Combine that stress with a worldwide pandemic, and it’s absolutely crippling. How do you get through something like this and still manage to function, let alone find the energy and creativity to work on a project? I’ll tell you my way: humor.
Humor has always been something my family uses to cope. It’s why we crack jokes in uncomfortable situations, and why we’re known as ‘the comic relief’ to my extended family. Funny little moments are what keep my family going during these difficult times, so I felt that for my thesis, documenting these moments in the form of comics was a perfect way to communicate our story and have fun doing it. Drawing these comics has been really enjoyable and a great stress reliever for me and my family, and sharing them with everyone always results in sharing a laugh, which is something I think we all need right now.
