I had just moved in with new roommates, and they were out late. In order to win them over I decided to do the dishes (dishwasher IN unit). I had never lived with a working dishwasher, so like anyone else who just met the beautiful machine, I put some Dawn dish soap in the little detergent hole. Twenty minutes later, while bubbles are filling the kitchen, my roommates come home. Mortified, I told them to not even look at me while I was frantically throwing the giant bubbles into the sink and throwing a towel down.
Everyone has their own little dishwasher moment, and I tend to have a lot of them. Realizing I wanted to focus on mishaps, I decided to ask people for their own awkward stories. The questions range from what are your pet peeves, what is something basic you don’t know how to do, or why do you hate the post office? There are physical mishaps like tripping, splitting your pants, spilling coffee on your white shirt, losing an item, or getting locked out of the house. There are also social mishaps like having a bad date, saying the wrong thing at the wrong time, or talking to a boring party guest. The characters I create have all woken up on the wrong side of the bed and have just kind of stayed there.
