There is a global experiment that is performed on 1.6 billion people across 70 countries twice a year that most people don’t realize is taking a toll on their health, daylight savings. In the spring, when we lose an hour of sleep there is a 24% increase in heart attacks. In the fall, when we gain that hour of sleep back there is a 21% rapid decrease in heart attacks. This phenomenon illustrates how fragile and susceptible your body is to even just one hour of lost sleep. There is additional research to support that if someone sleeps less than 6 hours per night, a week before they plan on getting the flu shot, they will produce only half of the normal antibody response, essentially rendering the flu shot inert. If you are not sleeping effectively, you are wasting your money and jeopardizing your health. Humans need a full, restful, eight hours of sleep to maintain a healthy heart and proper body function.

That is why I created Somnus, a relaxing and engaging platform that delivers helpful sleep information and content in a personalized manner for the user’s specific needs. Somnus aims to help users slowly build life-long healthy sleep habits while also breaking potentially harmful habits from their past. Somnus starts with am engaging and intuitive signup experience to get to know the user’s specific sleep issues an habits. It focuses on the individual’s specific needs, and going deeper than basic information, the brand can be perceived as a trusted advisor and companion in the pursuit of a better night’s sleep. Somnus should be viewed as a helping-hand to motivate users by setting up small rewards for their continued progress and successes. Also, Somnus increases motivation by building challenges and rewards into the application.

If you need a book recommendation during quarantine I highly recommend Why We Sleep by Matthew Walker.
