With this project, I aim to explore body image and the perception of self through the lens of fantastical creatures/characters in the format of a children’s book. In doing this, I am striving to create a world that children are drawn to on a visual level, while simultaneously introducing them to important themes of self love/acceptance in an age where body image is tremendously skewed through popular media.

I find this topic of body image to be extremely important for young children. Growing up, I did not see much representation for different body sizes in the media, and this skewed my view of what my body should look like. If children are first given tools of self-love and not self-criticism, they will invite healthier mental habits and perspectives into their lives.
