Bold + Bare is an empowerment initiative to give alopecians the confidence to show their bare heads and move towards the destigmatization of hair loss in our society.

Alopecia is an autoimmune disorder in which the immune system attacks hair follicles. There is no cure for it, and treatments can be attempted in the hopes that hair will grow back, but never with any guarantees. Each individual’s experience with alopecia is unique and unpredictable.

While there are a lot of people in the alopecia community who are empowered and have accepted hair loss as a part of their life, there is still a lot of insecurity and lack of confidence in showing a bare head. The stigma that comes with hair loss in our society is inhibiting people from being truly comfortable and confident with themselves.

By sharing the stories and confident portraits of alopecians, Bold + Bare aims to increase the community's representation in media, which will ultimately help to normalize hair loss and give the people in this community the confidence they need.
