We tend to feel fondly nostalgic when thinking back on our childhood memories. After growing up, learning more about the world and talking more with family about the past, I’ve come to realize I’ve been looking back on those memories with rosy lenses, due to naivety and information hidden from me by the adults in my life when I was a kid. This thesis is an opportunity to revisit my past through anecdotes of my childhood that explore my growing up with my Chinese heritage, to reevaluate my seemingly happy memories with my present skepticism, and to see how these things eventually shaped my own Asian-American identity. To do this, I created a sequential narrative that explores surrealistic environments and color symbolism, while being inspired by other coming of age stories.
